The Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Foundation (KAHF) has launched a campaign to distribute humanitarian aid and assistance to tens of thousands of Lebanese and Syrian families in Lebanon, on the occasion of the Holy month of Ramadan. The KAHF will provide much needed aid and support to refugees throughout the country, including Wadi Khaled, Akkar and Deir Imar. The Foundation is working in cooperation and coordination with the Arab Lebanese Crescent. The first phase of the campaign included the distribution of food rations, hygine packs and medical supply kits for more than 1,500 families.
Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Chairman of Al Habtoor Group, said, "The Holy Ramadan is the month of benevolence and blessing. We hope, through assistance, to give some joy to Syrian refugees who are suffering from poor health and living conditions." He added, "The importance of this campaign is that it contributes to alleviating the suffering of our brethren. Assistance will be throughout Lebanon."
The one-week campaign started in the Bekaa region on June 14, where 1,000food rations, medical kits and hygienic packs were distributed to Syrian refugees in Arsal and its surrounding areas as well as Al Kaa and Baalbeck. On June 15, the aid convoy distributed aid to the border area of Wadi Khaled, where more than 2,000 Syrian refugees are living.
Aid was also distributed in Dair Imar and Akkar, with assistance from MP Mouin El Mura'bi. The KAHF delegation, currently in Lebanon, are supervising the distribution of aid packs to displaced Syrian families in many areas throughout the country, in coordination with the Internal Security Forces and the Arab Lebanese Crescent, led by Nabil El Ayoubi, head of the Civil Defense Authority.
Sultan Al Habtoor, Chairman of the KAHF Board of Trustees, said, "We sympathize with our Syrian brethren in Lebanon. It is our humanitarian duty to extend a helping hand to them."
The Syrian refugees welcomed the assistance and expressed their gratitude to the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Foundation for its efforts to assist them in their current plight, and said that humanitarian organisations in the UAE were among the first to respond to their situation.
Abdul Salam Al Marzooqi, KAHF Secretary General and Director, said, "This campaign is a part of a series of campaigns undertaken previously by the Foundation to help Syrian refugees who are living in very hard conditions." He pointed out that the campaign would continue and that the Foundation had already started a relief program to continue to support Syrian refugees, as well as Lebanese families who are struggling in Lebanon.
