Visit to discuss the Foundation’s mission and program priorities, which include the environment, women, population, children’s health, peace, security and human rights.
The President of the United Nations Foundation and the Better World Fund, Senator Timothy Wirth, together with Ms. Leslie Creedon, Executive Director, Development at the UN Foundation and Mr. Reid Detchon, Vice President for Energy and Climate at the United Nations Foundation visited Mr. Khalaf Al Habtoor at his office in Dubai. The CEO of Al Habtoor Group, Mr. Mohammed Al Habtoor and other executive directors of Al Habtoor Group, were also in attendance.
The United Nations Foundation and the Better World Fund were both founded in early 1998 as a result of a major financial commitment from American media tycoon and humanitarian, Mr. Ted Turner, to support and strengthen the work of the United Nations.
Renowned for being a passionate philanthropist, and for many years openhandedly supporting charitable causes all over the UAE, the region and internationally, Mr. Khalaf Al Habtoor welcomed his meeting with the President of UN Foundation. The two gentlemen discussed the Foundation’s mission and program priorities, which include the environment, women, population, children’s health, peace, security and human rights.
Mr. Al Habtoor who is dedicated to improving people’s lives and futures, learned that the Foundation also engages in extensive public advocacy, fundraising and institutional strengthening efforts on behalf of the United Nations. Through mobilising these diverse resources, the UN Foundation has been able to work with many public and private partners, and manages a variety of campaigns to help solve major problems facing the world community.
Mr. Al Habtoor was presented with an Honorary Doctorate degree in Humane Letters in 2005, as well as the prestigious International Peace Prize, by the United Cultural Convention of American in 2004. This award recognised his achievements for peace and justice across political, religious and ethnic divisions, as well as commended his enthusiastic assistance in his ongoing humanitarian efforts.
