27-JAN-2015

Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor welcomed a delegation from the American University in Cairo (AUC) at his office in Dubai on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. The delegation included President of AUC, Lisa Anderson; Mary Iskander, Senior Adviser to the President; Dina El Gazzar, Director of Development, Office of Institutional Advancement, and Dina Abulfotuh – Vice President for Communications, Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Present from the Al Habtoor Group was Sultan Al Habtoor, President of Al Habtoor Motors; Ziad Ida, Director of Community Relations and Safety, and Noura Badawi, Director of Media and Communications.

The delegation briefed Al Habtoor on the current political climate in Cairo. “There is a real sense of community spirit,” said, Lisa Anderson, Professor of the University.

They also told him about current funding initiatives, as well as research underway at the University, and plans for the 100th anniversary in 2019.

President Anderson informed the Al Habtoor Group Chairman about how the University prepares its students for the private sector once they have graduated. “We teach our students how to write proper resumes, and provide internship programmes so they can gain experience outside of the classroom. It is a very sophisticated operation.”

Al Habtoor, a long-term supporter of AUC, said, “Practicality is the most important.”

He added that he could offer AUC graduates internships within the Al Habtoor Group of companies specifically in finance, hospitality, engineering and architecture, and administration.

Al Habtoor, who has a honourary doctorate from AUC in Humane Letters, donated $5 million in 2010 to finance a Football and Track Stadium in his name at the Cairo campus.
